This study aims to investigate the combustion characteristics of briquettes produced from a blend of low-rank coal (BB) and young coconut shell charcoal (AKM) as an effort to improve thermal efficiency and reduce exhaust gas emissions. The research employed an experimental method with AKM:BB blending ratios of 0%:100%, 10%:90%, 20%:80%, 30%:70%, and 100%:0%. The briquette production process included carbonization, mixing with tapioca starch binder, molding into a honeycomb shape, and testing at the Integrated Laboratory of Universitas Tadulako. The parameters analyzed included proximate and ultimate analyses, gas emission measurements using a gas analyzer, and combustion efficiency evaluation using the water boiling test method. The results showed that the 10% AKM : 90% BB blend was the most optimal composition, yielding a calorific value of 7,201 kcal/kg, a thermal efficiency of 25.01%, and relatively low CO emissions of 1.29 ppm. These findings indicate that the addition of 10% young coconut shell charcoal can enhance combustion performance while producing briquettes that are more efficient and environmentally friendly
